September Recap + Flights of Fantasy Update

Life lately
I expected September to wind down but it was busier than ever in a lot of ways. (This past week was completely free though and I totally needed it.) There's been a bunch of fun book events (Warbringer!), lots of dinners, goodbye drinks for a coworker, birthdays, a roadtrip to Philly with Alexa and DJ to see Sarah (!!) and more photo outings with my cousins. I hope next month is more of the same except maybe cutting back on eating out (for the sake my wallet and me trying to eat better) and getting more sleep (I am exhausted lately).

Also, Carina motivated me to start using my FitBit again to not only track steps but food too. And I didn't know that there were fitness apps like FitStar and FitYoga that connect directly to it. So, I'm giving it a try to see how that works for me. Wish me luck!

Read but not reviewed
  • Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) by Sarah J. Maas - 5 stars; I won't deny that a part of me was disappointed when I found out the last book was being pushed in favor of the Chaol novella becoming full-length. Well, I take it all back. This was an incredible story that expanded the world in amazing ways, introduced new characters I love (Yrene! Borte!) and gave readers a whole new look in Chaol's moving journey. I can't imagine the series with this installment.
  • Night of Cake & Puppets (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #2.5) by Laini Taylor - 4 stars; this novella reminded me of why I fell in love with the series and Taylor's writing. Plus Mik and Zu <3
  • In Real Life by Cory Doctorow - 3 stars; Loved the illustrations and there were parts of the story I really enjoyed but other parts seemed a bit left-field to me.
  • The Wild Heart by Beau Taplin - 3 stars; This is Taplin's most famous work so I was excited to see it back in stock. I enjoyed it but his latest collection of poems, Bloom, remains my fave.
  • Brida by Paulo Coehlo - 3 stars; I went through a phase of reading Coehlo's books but it's been years since I've picked one up. It was nice to read something totally different from my usual TBR.
  • Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne - 4 stars; another enjoyable book from her Love Unexpectedly series. Her books are just fun (and steamy).
  • Just Listen by Sarah Dessen - 4 stars; slowly making my way through Dessen's backlog!
  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman - 4 stars; it took a while for me to get hooked but once I did, I was all in. It's funny, heartbreaking and hopeful.
