August Recap

Life lately
It's August and quickly approaching Fall, which honestly blows my mind. It's been a crazy stressful month on a professional level but on a personal level, it was actually really great. I went into the city to celebrate Alexa's birthday with her, explored a local Jersey town with my cousins, cleaned out the garage at my dad's house which was a HUGE but satisfying undertaking, got my hair highlighted, had lunch with Carina, and saw my family every Sunday. As always, it's those tiny moments of normalcy and seeing my loved ones that really lift my spirits in spite of everything.

      Read but not reviewed
      • The Dare (Briar U, #4) by Elle Kennedy
         - 3 stars
The final (?) installment in Briar U was definitely the weakest in the series but still fun. It's hard not to fall in love with Conor and the way he and Taylor meet was certainly memorable. But I always cringe when the heroine "needs a makeover" or the sole reason why she has confident is because of a guy. That said, it has its charming moments and I did like how the conflict was resolved.
      • Archangel's StormArchangel's Legion, + Archangel's Shadows (Guild Hunters, Books 5-7) by Nalini Singh - 4 stars
I'll be doing a full review of this series at a later date for something Alexa and I are working on with every book I read, I just fall in love with this series even more.
      • Rough Magic: Riding the World's Loneliest Horse Race by Lara Prior-Palmer - 3 stars
This is Lara Prior-Palmer's memoir of how she competed in the world's longest, toughest horse race (on a whim!), and ended up being its youngest and first-ever female winner. It was really interesting and I was fascinated by the race but I had hope for more of a connection with Lara herself.

      1. I still haven't read The Dare, though I fully intend to because I want to complete that series as well!
