Table for Two #24: Dominique Ansel Bakery

For this month's Table for Two, I'll be chatting about Dominique Ansel Bakery and Alexa is featuring Jack's Wife Freda.

I've wanted to go to Dominique Ansel Bakery for the longest time but what I had heard about the long wait always stopped me. So when Alexa, Kristin and I decided to check out their holiday-themed pastries for our festive day out a few weekends ago, I was both excited and wary. We did end up having to wait a bit but luckily the sun was out and with good company, it wasn't that bad at all considering we went later in the morning on a Saturday. The store itself extends pretty far back with places to sit along the side, in the back room and in the outdoor garden area.  

For dessert, we decided to share: 

• Blizzard the Bear, a two-tiered cream puff filled with raspberry jam and hazelnut linzer cookie ganache 
• Gingerbread pinecone, a singular chocolate pinecone made with speculoos ganache, ginger mousse and gingerbread cake 
• Black and blue pavlova, hollowed-out blueberry meringue, fresh blackberries, blueberry compote, and a lemon vanilla cream

At first I thought the bear was my favorite but I ended up not being a huge fan of the raspberry jam once I reached the middle. (But the bear was the cutest!) Looking back, I actually think the pinecone was the winner for me, which is surprising because I'm usually not the biggest fan of gingerbread. However, I do love speculoos! Then there was the pavlova, which was super light, refreshing and the slightest bit tart. It was my second fave of the three, mainly because I was in the mood for something sweet. 

But there are so many more things I still want to try (like his famous cronut!) that I know I'll definitely be going back again.
