Table for Two #17: Mermaid Oyster Bar

For this month's Table for Two, I'll be chatting about Mermaid Oyster Bar and Alexa is featuring Mochii.

How could we resist a restaurant with the word mermaid in it? Not to mention oysters! The restaurant was cozy and airy (I love how restaurants in NYC have an open front area when it's warm). The service was great. We showed up without a reservation (oops!) but luckily we went early and they quickly gave us a table as long as we could give it back by 7:15. Which worked out perfectly for us since we had a dessert place to get to after dinner.

For our meal, we decided to share and ordered: fried calamari and fried clam slider from their Happy Hour menu and then the grand platter (twelve oysters, six clams, tuna crudo, shrimp cocktail, ceviche) from their raw bar.

Everything was delicious, fresh and their fried food perfectly seasoned. I wasn't expecting us to get so full but we did. In a good way though! We finished the slider, oysters and clams, made a dent in the calamari and the rest we made a point to try but were too stuffed to go on.

If I'm ever in the mood for oysters (which I definitely get cravings for), I would come back here for sure.

You can find Mermaid Oyster Bar at 79 Macdougal Street and other various locations.

Let us know if you check it out!

Alexa of Alexa Loves Books and I have teamed up to bring you Table for Two, a collaboration that involves two of our favorite things - New York City and food. The two of us will be highlighting restaurants and dessert spots in New York City. You'll be hearing our personal opinions on the place and the food, as well as where you can go to try it out for yourself.
