A Little Older, A Little Wiser

I’ve basically been waiting for this birthday just so I could use that quote from Before Sunset

Not really.

(Well maybe a little bit.)

God, am I really 32 today?

I’ve never really looked forward to my birthday. But since turning 30, there’s been a shift in how I view this day. I find myself becoming a little more contemplative about what I’ve done in my life so far and about what I hope is yet to come. No year has ever gone exactly as planned but c’est la vie, right? What’s important is that I’ve tried to take my life more by the reins now than I did in my 20s. And I think that comes with maturity and having a clearer sense of what I want. That doesn’t mean I still don’t have my days where I feel a little lost or want to hide in bed to avoid facing the real world. It's a feeling that will probably always pop up from time to time. But I guess what I’m trying to say is — more than ever, I'm excited to see what’s next and I want to remember to be present in each moment of my life as they happen.

So with that said, this seems like the perfect time to share happy thoughts and what I’m grateful for right now

a happy and healthy family
my dear friends, you know who you are
working in NYC, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else
two semi-impromptu apartment projects
(bad for my wallet, good for the soul)
living on my own
my fish, Rowan, has been alive 2 whole months (& counting!)
my beautiful book collection
knowing when it's time to let go
having two blogs as creative and at times therapeutic outlets
warm, sunny weather + long summer days
lazy weekends where I can binge-watch TV shows
music I want to listen to all the time (Tori Kelly at the moment!)
faith that more plans, more fun and more everything will happen

Happy birthday to me! :)

  1. Happy birthday, Rachel! I love that quote - I'm 32 now and I'm not sure if I'm relieved or a little stressed by it. Maybe a bit of both. But I'm glad that you are taking life by the reins. I think for me, being 32 means that we appreciate all of the things you mention so much more than we did at 23...and that's a blessing.

Hope you have a wonderful day, full of all the things you love. You deserve it.

  5. Happy birthday, love! I'm so honored that I've gotten to celebrate three of your birthdays with you now, and I look forward to being able to toast and eat to many, many more. It's truly such a blessing to be your friend, and to have you in my life; wouldn't have it any other way! So happy at all the blessings in your life (yay for Rowan still alive!), and wishing you nothing but even more of them <3
