Here are the basics ...
Apollyon (Covenant #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Publication date: April 4, 2013
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Category: Young Adult - Paranormal/Urban Fantasy
Source: Purchased

Summary: Alex feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back. The gods have killed thousands in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries. Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself. (Adapted goodreads.com)
My thoughts…
The good: It's been months since I read the first three books in the Covenant series and before starting Apollyon I started skimming the previous books. And when I say that, I mean I was reading all the Alex/Aiden scenes because you know.. I like those best. It reminded me of how much I had enjoyed them but in my mind, Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series was still my favorite. But now that I've read Apollyon - the two series might be tied. Her writing is just wildly addicting and entertaining. Not to mention she is a pro at coming up with brooding, strong, hot guys you want to swoon over. If you loved Aiden before, you will love him a million times more in this book.

(Spoiler warning if you haven't read the other books!) Last we left off, Alex was awakened and a full Apollyon. Just as everyone had feared, she connected with Seth who is hell-bent on taking the pure-bloods and even the gods down. The people in her life - her friends, her uncle Marcus, Aiden and even Apollo - are standing by her to help her fight Seth and this destructive connection. Their entire world is in chaos and it won't be long before that spills onto the unsuspecting mortals. It's the ultimate battle and the book was action-packed from start to finish. I just kept turning the pages, desperate to know what would happen next.

Alex's character evolves a lot throughout the series and I felt it was most apparent in this book. She's faced with choices (or a lack thereof) that are crippling and yet she fights on. She's as stubborn and snarky as ever. And she loves deeply even when maybe she shouldn't. (Oh yes, her and Aiden get a lot of sexy times.) I really rooted for and connected with her as a protagonist. I can't wait to see what's in store for her, Aiden and everyone next.

(Potential) reservations: Her cliffhangers. I always get to the end of her books and I want to scream, nooooo. Also, super nitpicky, but the fixation on Aiden's eyes got to me a little. I imagine him being pretty hot but I don't think it's necessary to describe every single minute change in color repeatedly.

Do I recommend?: Yes! I've thoroughly enjoyed every YA book this author has written and if you're into fantasy/paranormal, I think you will too.

Happy reading!
