Every show and musical I've ever been to

Before COVID-19 happened, I originally had plans to see Jagged Little Pill with Estelle on March 13th plus Lungs on March 31st and Six on April 3rd with Alexa. I usually don't see that many shows in such a short period of time so it was exciting to have three on my calendar. Then, given the circumstances, all had to be postponed until further notice. (I really hope they get rescheduled!)

But thinking about it now, it got me looking back on all that shows I've ever seen and because I'm me, I had to make a list.

Here's what I've seen and when (all in NYC, unless I specify otherwise!):
Feb 2003 Rent
Feb 2004 Wicked
Jan 2005 Stomp
Mar 2005 Mamma Mia! (at the Royal Alexandra Theater, Toronto)
Feb 2007 Avenue Q
Apr 2009 Guys and Dolls
Sep 2011 Legally Blonde (at the West End Theatre, London)
Jun 2012 Once
Jul 2013 Matilda
Jun 2015 Gigi
Feb 2016 Smart People
Apr 2016 Waitress
Aug 2016 An American in Paris
Apr 2017 Anastasia
Mar 2018 Children of a Lesser God
May 2018 Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Jul 2018 Wicked
Aug 2018 Once on This Island
Mar 2019 My Fair Lady
Jun 2019 Moulin Rouge

In total, I've been to 20 shows which kind of blows my mind. I know that more regular show-goers have seen far more than that but I never realized how many I had seen until I sat down to make this list.

If I had to pick which ones are my favorite/most memorable to me, I'd choose:
  • Rent, for being my first experience with Broadway
  • Wicked, which I saw with the original cast
  • Once, because it's one of my favorite movies and the adaptation was beautiful
  • Smart People, not a favorite per se but memorable because Joshua Jackson was in it!
  • Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, for its incredible set design and production
  • Moulin Rouge, because it was truly spectacular and I loved it so, so much

What I hope to see next:
Jagged Little Pill, Lungs, Six, Dear Evan Hansen and Hadestown.

Do you love going to shows? I'd love
to hear what your favorites are!

  1. I love this post so much! I made me do some reflecting myself and I've seen 9 shows- 8 of which were over the past 4 years mostly because of college field trips. My favorites are definitely Waitress, Hamilton, and The Band's Visit. Hopeful that your shows get rescheduled and that you also get to see Dear Evan Hansen soon!

  2. I hear that! I've had four shows cancelled so far :-( I cannot wait for things to go back to normal and for Broadway to open up! You're so lucky that you got to see Rent back in 2003! That's one of those shows I missed out on and always wished I would've seen! I would 100% see Hadestown and Dear Evan Hansen again once things are better in NYC!

  3. I miss going to see shows so much! It's truly one of my favorite things about living in New York, and it also boggles my mind whenever I consider how many shows I've seen (including the ones I've been lucky enough to see more than once). I hope we get the chance to see some of the ones we both want to (Six and Hadestown) one day!
