Life Lately | Books, Brunch and Broadway

It's been a month since I last shared what I've been up to lately and unsurprisingly, my weeks have been filled with book events with friends and eating out but I also attended my first Broadway of the year!

I went to two books with Alexa and DJ! First, we went to Lizzy's book launch at McNally Jackson for her debut novel The Art of Losing.  It was such a nice event, filled with her friends and family, and I absolutely enjoyed listening to her get personal about where this book stems from. Then we went to Books are Magic (Alexa and I grabbed ice cream first) to listen to Jen E. Smith talk about her new book, Field Notes on Love. I haven't read it yet but listening Jen describe it (with Jenny Han moderating) made me even more excited to read it. Plus she's just always so nice to meet in person.

I hadn't planned a cousin outing in a while so we all went out for lunch. We went to Bareburger, where we all proceeded to eat far too many fries, onion rings and desserts along with our burgers, but it was well worth it. We walked around a bit afterwards and talked more about our upcoming San Francisco trip during the summer, which is feeling realer by the day. Sometimes I think I was crazy for suggesting we do a big family vacation but most of the time, I just feel super excited about it.

Last week, Alexa and I went to My Fair Lady on Broadway. I had been wanting to go ever since I heard about it so I'm very happy that we were able to go. I grew up watching the Audrey Hepburn version and I have to admit, it was pretty surreal to see it live. I remembered so many of the songs, which filled me with such nostalgia, but I can see why some friends told me certain parts are hard to swallow. But I just had to remind myself that it's of its time and the Broadway does stay true to the original. Plus Laura Benanti's Eliza Doolittle is independent, willful and a woman who knows what she wants. I also thought other characters like her father and Mrs. Pearce added some much needed humor in different ways. And the stage and set was incredible. I can't wait to see another show!
