Sirens Playlist | Inspired by To Kill a Kingdom

Happy release day to To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo! I read this book a couple weeks ago and fell in love with the author's retelling of The Little Mermaid. It's dark, adventurous (pirates! sirens!) and romantic. To celebrate its release, I created a sirens-themed playlist and.. it's pretty great, if I do say so myself! I hope you'll give it a listen and more importantly, check out this awesome debut novel.

Cher Lloyd • Sirens
Lay down here / Beside me in the shallow water / Beside me where the sun is shining on us still / Lay down here / Beside me in the hallowed water / Beside me where the silver lining stays until / The sirens' calling

Smallpools • Killer Whales
Submissive tone, you can play like you're willing to fall apart / But could you let this go? /  You keep your bones outstretched till the minute I turn around / How do I reach that soul?

Florence + the Machine • Ship to Wreck
Under starry skies we are lost / And into the breach we got tossed / And the water's coming in fast / And oh my love remind me, what was it that I said? /  I can't help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed /  And oh my love remind me, what was it that I did? / […] Did I build this ship to wreck?

Yuna • Poor Heart
How do you find a forgotten heart? / Tucked away in some abandoned place / And giving it another chance of feeling again / Sometimes an old heart just needs a new body / And a lifeless body just needs a new heart / Sometimes you just need a little bit of help from someone / For a heart to do what it is meant to do again

The xx • Tides
You leave with the tide / And I can't stop you leaving /  I can see it in your eyes / Some things that lost their meaning / Devote to me / Alone with me / Say with me / "Why would you ever want to leave?"

JJAMZ • Heartbeat
Can you hear my heartbeat? / Please don't stand so close to me / Can you hear my heartbeat still beating strong? / Maybe I'm ashamed to want you back / Maybe I'm afraid you'll never stay / Thought I hated you a long, long time / There was my mistake

The Naked and Famous • Rolling Waves
Before we sleep to just escape / Take a piece, take a piece / Or just walk away / Given the time can we come alive? / We are swimming, we are swimming / No warning signs

Lykke Li • Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone
There's a heart I cannot hide / There's a beat I can't deny / When it sings, when it lies / When it cheats, when it bribes / There's a war inside my core / I hear it fight, I hear it roar / Go ahead, go ahead / Lay your head where it burns

Javier Dunn • Across the Sea
When you came to me from across the sea / I was lost, caught among the waves / Then your steady hand led me to dry land / And I knew, knew that I was saved

Passion Pit • To Kingdom Come
Once I had an name to call you / It scraped along the walls like an orthodox saint / I wish for the same old things that turn me inside out / Hearing is a strain, it's a game!

Have you read To Kill a Kingdom yet?
And what's your favorite song on the playlist?
