The Mirror King Blog Tour: Featurette! with Jodi Meadows (+ Giveaway!)

I'm thrilled to be a part of The Mirror King blog tour!

First, I'm going to share some quick (but extremely enthusiastic) thoughts on The Mirror King and then the lovely Jodi Meadows will be joining me for a fun edition of Featurette!

What I thought

I fell in love with the world, the characters and the whole story Jodi Meadows created in The Orphan Queen. I couldn't wait to be reunited with Wilhelmina, Black Knife, Tobiah, James and the Ospreys and to find out how they would fight against the wraith overwhelming their lands. Not to mention – when and how would Wil become Queen? What happened to Tobiah? (That cliffhanger, guys.) How would certain romantic entanglements unfold? And would James continue to be wonderful? (The answer is yes.) The Mirror King is one of my favorite series enders and I couldn't be more impressed with how it wrapped up loose ends and continued to make my jaw drop. And my heart ache or swoon. Sometimes both at the same time. If you've already read the first book, I guarantee this one won't disappoint. And if you haven't started, go out and buy these books ASAP.

Now, for Featurette!. Two of my favorite shows are Game of Thrones and The Flash. In a lot of ways, they couldn't be more different. The former is an intense and graphic high fantasy series where the lines of good and evil are constantly blurred. The latter is a superhero story about a guy who is constantly striving to do what's right. It's a show with a lot of heart. But what both have in common is their amazing storytelling and characters that make you feel. (Sidenote: Tyrion, Jon Snow and Daenarys are my favorites; and don't get me started on my love of Barry aka The Flash).

Jodi is also a fan of these shows and shares her thoughts on both as well as how they relate to her current duology!

***

When I first started talking about THE ORPHAN QUEEN, I pitched it as Game of Thrones meets Batman (the YA versions!), but if I could run really fast and go back  in time -- having seen The Flash -- I might use Game of Thrones meets The Flash.

These are both shows I enjoy immensely.

With Game of Thrones, I found myself fascinated by the worldbuilding and how seamlessly it was portrayed. Sometimes, we could see it, thanks to the visual medium, but other times, the dialogue told us something. One of the scenes that stands out to me for doing a great job of this is one of the younger Stark boys looking at a map with his tutor, going over the names, animals, and words of various houses.

Plus, we get an amazing look at the various cultures and societies of this world through the way they dress, the things they eat, even the way they do their hair. It's visually stunning, and those small details do so much to really show the audience about the world.

As for the Flash, the thing that stands out most to me are the characters. I mean, I love the world and how unabashedly comic book everything is, but it's the characters that shine to me. Now, I've only seen one season of this (so don't go spoiling season 2 for me!!), so there's only so much I can say about this show. But let's talk about Barry.

That boy is so positive, particularly for someone who is -- essentially -- a vigilante. He has this power he's compelled to use to help people, but let's be real: he's a helper even without powers. The super-speed is a bonus. He's upbeat, optimistic, and he possesses a strong moral code that drives him to do good in the world.

THE ORPHAN QUEEN, THE MIRROR KING, and the four prequel novellas are part high fantasy, part superhero story: two things I absolutely adore.
