Top Ten Tuesday: My Childhood/Teen Books That I Would Love To Revisit

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/meme created by The Broke and the Bookish, where bloggers share their top ten answers every week.
I knew I had to do this topic when I saw it. It's something I've been thinking about since last year (and got even more motivated to do when I saw Estelle + Hannah's So Rather Be Young feature). I've already been making an effort to revisit favorites in general, so why not consider my childhood ones too? It was fun to look back on these books! I was surprised by what made it onto my final list.

1. Matilda by Roald Dahl
I'm pretty sure most people will have this one on their list and for good reason!

2. Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry
I was one of those little girls who wanted a horse and honestly, I still have a soft spot for books/movies/TV shows with horses in them. This series was a childhood favorite and I owned the whole series at one point (I'm tempted to buy them if I can't find my copies).

3. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
This should surprise no one considering I've been pretty vocal about owning 8 copies of this book. I have yet to re-read it though and it's on my to-do list for this year.

4. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Ever since I read this article on Bustle about re-reading Little Women as an adult, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I even bought a new (purse-friendly) copy because I am that determined to re-read it this year.

5. Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson
I found this book at my Aunt's house randomly and remember being sucker punched by this story as a young teen. I'd like to revisit it and see how I'd feel about it now.

6. The Harper Hall Trilogy by Anne McCaffrey
When I talk about the fantasy and what I grew up loving, this is usually the first one I mention. I must re-read this and see if it's still as amazing as I remember.

7. An Acceptable Time by Madeleine L'Engle
I actually re-read most of the A Wrinkle In Time Quartet because Carina got me the boxed set like 5 Christmases ago. She knew it was a childhood favorite and immediately after she gave them to me, I re-read the first three books. (Still great!) But for whatever reason, I didn't keep going. An Acceptable Time is the one I read in high school and I remember just loving it.

8. The Court of Stone Children by Eleanor Cameron
I don't remember how I found this book or even when exactly I read it. I just remember that when I was moving into my apartment and picking out books to bring with me, something told me to hold onto this one.

9. The Samurai's Garden by Gail Tsukiyama
I always had good relationships with my English teachers in high school, being a bookworm and all. One teacher in particular was always giving me books to read for fun like Bridges of Madison County, Circle of Friends and a bunch by Gail Tsukiyama. This was my favorite of all her recs and I haven't read it since my senior year. I definitely need to make time for this.

10. The Tempest by William Shakespeare
I recently saw the Romeo + Juliet ballet and when telling a friend about it, we got on the topic of Shakespeare and which one was our favorite. My answer has been The Tempest since I read it in high school but I'd like to see if that's still the case.

Which childhood or teen books would you like to revisit?

  1. So many shared faves! Matilda, Misty, Anne, the Harper Hall books, L'Engle, Little Women! I would add Heidi and Jane Eyre. I loved this TTT. :)

  2. Misty of Chincoteague made my list as well. Seriously, what little girl DIDN'T want a horse? My library has a whole collection of Henry books, and I'm just so tempted to go and borrow them all.
And ooh I loved the McCafferty books, though I had forgotten about them. I'll have to see if I can dig out my old copies. Same with An Acceptable Time.
    Great picks!

  3. There are still a few titles on here that I haven't quite read! But I totally share your love for Matilda and Anne of Green Gables, both favorites for me too :)
