Books in Real Life, Episode 3: Anna & the French Kiss

For this month's Books In Real Life we chose... Anna & the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins! As a francophile and a huge fan of Stephanie Perkins, it was fun getting to re-create Anna's adventures in New York.

First stop: a French cafe!

You can't recreate a day in Paris without stopping by a French cafe. We got croissants, coffee, nutella with bananas and strawberries and viennoiseries (the dish on the bottom right; it's ham, eggs, mushrooms and gruyere with bread).

Next.. Shakespeare & Company

One important scene in the book is when Anna and Etienne go to the Shakespeare & Co. bookstore. I was surprised to find a store in NYC a few years ago and was happy to come back.

Time for macarons

I pretty much always want macarons and Laduree is the best. Alexa and I got a box of 6 flavors, sat near the window and ate them all.

And lastly.. Paris Theatre!

Anna loves movies and one of her favorites things to do in Paris is to go to the theatre. So we went to The Paris Theatre to watch "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby". I really, really liked the movie. Even though weeks have been passed since we saw it, I find myself thinking about it from time to time. It's about the relationship of a young couple in NYC that begins to deteriorate after something tragic happens to them. What I loved is that we see the same events from different perspectives. From HIS and then from HERS. We see how differently they remember things and see what was going on with them to make them act that way. It's a quiet movie but one that will make you think.

Survey time! At the end of every Books In Real Life post, we are going to answer a few questions:

Anything you wish you'd known beforehand? The Paris Theatre has no cup holders! If I had known, I would've snuck in a bottle of soda and maybe some candy too :)

What was your favorite part? All of it! It's hard to pick a favorite but.. macarons always do brighten up my day.

Would we do it again? Yes! Good food, macarons and an indie movie with a dear friend. Of course I'd love to do this again!

  1. This is one of my favourite feature I've ever seen (and I was especially excited for this one because I love love love Anna and the French Kiss)! It's so creative and looks like you have an amazing time. Those macarons look delicious, and the movie sounds amazing. It makes me wish I lived somewhere where I could easily do all of these things too, but I guess I could if I really made a day of it and went downtown! I can't wait to see what you girls do next :)
