Rachel & Carina's Infinite Playlist (10)

Wow, I can't believe we're at #10 already! The weeks have flown by!
To change it up a bit, we picked a theme today and we're calling it..
the VIVE LA FRANCE edition!

RACHEL • "Le prix á payer" by Les Shades
I found out about Les Shades through a playlist Stephanie Perkins made about Anna and the French Kiss (I love when authors do this!).  As soon as I heard this, I couldn't stop listening to it. It didn't matter that I didn't understand a word they were saying.  I could feel the energy in the song, that persistent beat. It makes me want to dance around every time. In my mind it's a song about letting loose and enjoying the moment. (In reality, now that I've actually translated the lyrics, not so much.  I think I'll stick with my interpretation though.) Also, the band is just super nice! Which I am basing on the two times we tweeted back and forth.  Hope you like the song and be sure to check out the rest of their music!

CARINA • "Quelqu'un m'a dit" by Carla Bruni
I first heard this song in the movie "500 Days of Summer" and being that I felt the movie used specific songs to drive some of the scenes, I immediately wanted to look up the translation to this song's lyrics. I remember this song played after Tom questioned Summer about the status of their relationship and Summer simply replied with (not direct quote but it went something like this), "Why does it matter? I'm happy. Aren't you happy?" Clearly he was looking for something more but just took what he could get from her at the moment. When I finally read the translation to the song, I thought that the choice of playing it during that particular scene was so fitting. One translator commented that he felt this song was about hope, about focusing on "possibilities that maybe, just maybe we can be happier, find someone that loves us or something to reach for." I felt this song was more for Tom than Summer. Tom was hoping that Summer will love him someday the same way he loves her..
