Rachel & Carina's Infinite Playlist (5)

RACHEL • "Rise to the Sun" by Alabama Shakes
I remember listening to the Alabama Shakes album a couple times and thinking it was good but for some reason, it didn't really stick with me.  Then a month after that my co-worker sent me the music video for their first single "Hold On" (which I love) and as I watched I realized.. OMG it's a GIRL singing! This whole time I thought the leader singer was a guy! I found myself listening to the song and their entire album in a completely different light. I mean, her voice has got such power and soul in it.   And she plays the guitar. Every time I watch a live performance now, I'm just blown away.  And hopefully you will be too! I definitely recommend listening to the entire album (it's on Spotify!) but I've had this song on repeat all week.

CARINA • "I Can't Make You Love Me / Nick of Time" by Bon Iver
I had the wonderful opportunity to see Bon Iver in concert at Radio City Music Hall this past Thursday and WOW. Hands down the best concert I've seen in my lifetime so, it was only fitting to choose Bon Iver for this week's music pick. For those who are not familiar with their music, they are not exactly, let's say.. upbeat? Some of you may even think their music to be grouped with the likes of.. to put it nicely.. lullabies? I admit, I have listened to some of their songs before going to bed but I can't even put into words how amazing Bon Iver is live. You will definitely NOT fall asleep but if you do, I'm pretty sure it will be a nice deep sleep because Justin Vernon's voice is very soothing.

I have a lot of favorites from their albums but came across the below video recently and I can't stop playing it. The song is actually a cover but I think it shows off how amazing Justin Vernon's voice is AND you can actually understand the lyrics (fans, you know what I'm talking about).

If you like our music, you can subscribe to our playlist on Spotify which we'll update each week!

  1. I could have sworn I commented on this but clearly I did not (sorry about that!) I LOVE both of these artists. Alabama Shakes became a favorite of mine after I listened to Hold On as well. It was on the radio one day and I was like "I think I really sort of like this band" and since then I've been a fan. And Bon Iver, well just simply brilliant. Also, so jealous you got to see them in concert!
