Summary: It’s the end of Year 12. Lucy’s looking for Shadow, the graffiti artist everyone talks about. His work is all over the city, but he is nowhere. Ed, the last guy she wants to see at the moment, says he knows where to find him. He takes Lucy on an all-night search to places where Shadow’s thoughts about heartbreak and escape echo around the city walls. But the one thing Lucy can’t see is the one thing that’s right before her eyes. (Adapted from goodreads.com

My thoughts…
The good: This book was like the art version of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - except WAY better.  It's extremely visual and as each of Shadow's pieces were described, it made me wish I could see them in person.  It was easy to understand why Lucy was so fascinated by him.  Personally, I don't know if I'd go chasing after a graffiti artist, but she does it in a way that was just hilarious and fun. I can't tell you how many scenes with her and Ed had me laughing out loud.  Probably one of my favorite things about her is how comfortable she is with herself.  She's not afraid to ask questions, babble about her passion for art, or throw a punch (or two) when needed.  Then the chapters in the book alternated, so if you weren't reading from her POV, you were reading from Ed's (and occasionally Poet's).  Ed was an interesting character.  It's clear that he's fascinated by Lucy but doesn't know how to talk to her.  Then as the night goes on during their wild goose chase, they both open up and let their guards down.  They realize that they have more in common than they could've imagined.  Sparks definitely fly and I couldn't help but fall in love with them.  And it wasn't just a story about love and art.  It was also about friendship, relationships, knowing yourself and realizing your own potential.

The bad: A lot of characters are introduced early in the book, so there were a couple times when I'd flip back a few pages to remember who this or that person was.  Then again, I started reading the book after a nap, so I might've been a little groggy.  Other than that, I enjoyed the book from beginning to end.

Do I recommend?: That would be a resounding yes. When I tweeted a picture of my latest stack of library books, Estelle immediately replied that this should be my next read. And I'm glad I listened! It was exactly what I needed - fun and light but with a lot of heart.

Happy reading!

  1. I need to get an actual copy of this book for my library. I read it last year from NetGalley and LOVED it. Poet's my favorite ;)
