This week I'll be back to posting like I usually do but I did want to take an opportunity today to do something different with my Links + Loves feature. For today it's going to be all links! The first set of links will be related #BlackLivesMatter and the second set will be what I typically share.
#BlackLivesMatter
1 / Here's a one stop shop for all the petitions, organizations in need of donations, resources and more. It's updated regularly.2 / The Cut spoke to Breonna Taylor's mother so she could share a tribute on what would've been her daughter's 27th birthday.
3 / Time Magazine just released a powerful cover that has the names of 35 men and women whose deaths "were the result of systematic racism and helped fuel the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement." The accompanying article talks about why George Floyd's death sparked "an American Uprising."
4 / Marie Claire put together a list of "62 Black-Owned Brands to Support Today and Every Day" and Damsel In Dior also shared a smaller list that focused on beauty brands (I ordered from Aba Love Apothecary yesterday!).
5 / For my fellow NJers (and nearby New Yorkers), here are black-owned restaurants in North Jersey and a comprehensive list that covers NYC, Queens and Brooklyn.
6 / BuzzFeed shared "23 Phenomenal Young Adult Books By Black Authors From The First Half Of 2020" that I highly recommend you check out.
7 / If you're looking for movies and TV shows portraying racism in American, USA Today put together this list.
8 / This honest, heartfelt video from Ivirlei Brookes on her IG TV is an absolute must-watch. I watched it over the weekend and it's easy to see why it's gotten over 4M views at this point. It should give everyone a lot to reflect on, myself included, and if you want to hear more from her, there's also an interview on The EveryGirl.
Links
1 / I love a good home tour, even though it usually ends with me wanting to do some redecorating of my own! Elsie from The Beautiful Mess shared links to everything inside her home and I can't get enough of the dreamy atmosphere she's put together.2 / If you ask me what I miss most right now, my answer will be hugging my family and friends. I keep wondering when we'll get more guidance on reintroducing normal human interaction and this article from The New York Times on "How to Hug During a Pandemic" is exactly the kind of thing I'd like to see more of.
3 / Verily Magazine shared a Sara Bareilles playlist and talked about how her songs made her feel less alone during pivotal moments in her life. It reminded of how much I loved Sara's earlier music and how her words always resonated with me too. I think I need to put together my own Sara B playlist soon!
4 / This Darling Magazine article about how "the little things are actually the big things" is so on point.
5 / I love this post from The Financial Diet about "how to stop treating your time like your kitchen junk drawer" and I could not agree more. I definitely thought I needed to do all the things when the pandemic first started but in the last month or so, I've been kinder to myself and easier on my time. Like everything else in life, it's all about finding that balance and that's something I strive to do every day.
