Queen of Shadows Survival Kit (Blog Tour + Giveaway!)

It's absolutely wonderful to be reunited my Maas Thirteen ladies (and the best co-founders ever – Alexa, Judith, Jaz and Katie) to show just how much we loved Queen of Shadows. It's, without a doubt, the best book I've read all year! As I mentioned in my review, I got the book hangover of all book hangovers after reading this and how I felt gave me the idea for my post. I needed a survival kit! And if you loved the book even half as much as I did, I'm sure you feel the same way.

The idea of reading anything remotely fantasy didn't appeal to me after finishing Queen of Shadows. I just knew nothing would live up to my QoS experience. The books pictured above are the first five books I read immediately after and it was totally the right call. Honestly, I couldn't have picked books that were any more different. Which is why I didn't draw any comparisons and it was actually nice to dive in something either light and fluffy or sexy and romantic.
Whether your comfort food is chocolate, mac & cheese, wine, ice cream or all of the above (like me, who loves everything pictured here!), you'll want to indulge yourself while drowning in all the feels.
The lovely Sarah J. Maas herself talked about how she grew up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and how it showed her that you could be a "girly girl" and like "boy stuff". Just like Celeana! I grew up watching this show too and Sarah's sentiment is one I wholeheartedly agree with. I've watched every episode at least twice, if not more and it can be found on Netflix, Hulu (with a subscription) and Amazon Instant. If you want more feels, more kickass women, more romance and more complicated characters, watch this ASAP.
Who doesn't love a little swag? There are so much cute things out right now. You can get posters/shirts/tote bags from Litographs, gorgeous jewelry from CADSAWAN, newly designed stuff from Gillian (you saw her post, right?!) or just go on Etsy. I went a bit overboard and I currently own a Litographs tote plus ordered a mini Amulet of Orynth charm, Wydmarks necklace, Lady of Shadows/Queen of Light mug and an Aelin tank top. Gotta show my support for my fandom + these talented designers. (Jamie did a whole retail therapy post for the tour if you want more ideas!)

Sarah creates elaborate playlists for every book and for the first time, she's sharing them on Spotify! These are my favorites: The ballet/classical songs, "Once Upon a Dream" by Lana Del Ray, "The Mother We Share" by CHVRCHES, "Fantasy" by MSMR, "A Peaceful Place" by Jeremy Zuckerman, "Higher Ground" by Red Hot Chili Peppers, all the Florence + the Machine songs, all the Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs, "No Cars Go" by Arcade Fire, Sound of Music songs, "Outro" by M83, "Far Longer than Forever" from The Princess Swan soundtrack (a movie I loved as a child!)

You'll want to talk/text/tweet about this book after reading so pick a friend (who's currently reading or already read) the book and prepare them for the barrage of messages. Trust me when I say discussion and lots of gushing will be necessary post-read.

  1. I don't quite have a favorite character yet, as I haven't been able to start the series yet! I really want to, though. Hopefully, I'll be able to do so before the year is over! :) x

  2. I don't have one yet. I'm hoping to read the series before November when she's coming to my town to do a book signing.
