Rachel & Carina's Infinite Playlist (62): Valentine's Day!

So we have a super special edition of the infinite playlist today! Carina and I had planned to choose love songs in honor of Valentine's Day and I had this last-minute (brilliant!) idea to ask other bloggers to contribute a song too. These lovely ladies frequently mention the music they're listening to whether it's on their blog, Twitter or Spotify. And they all have awesome song recommendations. (Seriously, check them out.)

This is what I asked them: Choose a love song - happy or sad, fast or slow, anything! And why.

Here's our Valentine's Day playlist!
Keep scrolling to read why we chose these songs ...

Gonna Be (500 Miles) by Sleeping At Last - I'd heard and danced around to this song a million times...but I remember when I first heard this cover so vividly. It made me sit up and listen. I never realized just how sweet the words were! And it may be silly but now all I can picture when I hear it is me walking down the isle while it's playing. :)

My choice would be Who You Love by John Mayer & Katy Perry. First off, because I think they're a super cute couple. Second, I really love the lyrics in this song. I think they're very sweet and would love to have someone sing them to me :)

I'm going to be the sap that chooses her wedding song. But for the record, our pick wasn't exactly traditional. We danced to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, but for today's exercise, here's a great cover of it from Lissie. (It played on an early episode of Revenge and I got all excited!) "Trust I seek and I find in you / Everyday for us something new". The song is totally about devotion, being open-minded, and working together to have the best life. (Plus it reminds me of so many different times with my husband.)

Mushaboom by Feist. This has been one of my favorite songs for a very long time -- before I met Will -- and now that I'm married it even means a lot more to me...I get the essence of the song even more. It's just about growing old with someone -- in the mundane parts of life where things aren't exactly where you want them. Just knowing that through it all you are creating this life and history together. Our marriage has had a lot of external trials thus far but I feel like even in those times we've just chalked it up to memories and stories we'll have to tell our kids one day. My favorite line = "I've got a man to stick it out / And make a home from a rented house /And we'll collect the moments one by one / I guess that's how the future's done."

The Magnetic Fields - The One You Really Love.
This is from their classic album, 69 Love Songs. Sweet and tender until you actually listen to the lyrics.
Knee Deep in My Heart by Shane Filan
It's such a feel good song! I keep getting the chorus stuck in my head, and just can't stop myself from singing along. I love the fact that the lyrics are pretty tongue-in-cheek, and it kind of just makes me smile all the time. Favorite line? "Act so sweet, but you're guilty as charged. I caught you out red-handed, knee deep in my heart."

"Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order (Cover by Marina Pont)
I love listening to song covers.
I love 80's songs.
I love this song.
I also love listening to songs in different languages and surprisingly came across one of my favorite 80's songs covered in Spanish.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

(Note: This song isn't on Spotify.)

I'm gonna go country (shocking I know) and choose When She Says Baby by Jason Aldean! Because a- his voice is hypnotic and b- the lyrics are just so adorable and relatable to any one who is/has ever been in love :-)

Katelyn @ Kate's Tales of Books and Bands (tweet)
Dead Sea by The Lumineers and here's why: The Lumineers have made me fall in love with all of their songs but there's something about this one in particular that made me fall a little harder. I love that it has that folksy sound I've come to love from them but more than that, I love the lyrics. Being there for someone unconditionally is a true sign of love and The Lumineers word it so well!

Oh geeze...  I hate that I can only pick one...  BUT if I must... I'm going with This is For Real by Motion City Soundtrack.  I have always loved this song. It makes my heart smile and want to explode.  Plus, it always makes me think of Noah and Echo from Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry.  I freaking love that book.

I Believe In A Thing Called Love by The Darkness.
Even though I suggested this whole love song thing, I had no idea what I was going to pick. Then I started thinking about my all-time favorite songs and remembered this one. I've loved it since college and have played it an embarrassing number of times. It's fun and loud and makes me want to sing along. My favorite part is: "I wanna kiss you every minute, every hour, every day / You got me in a spin but everythin' is A.OK!"

If you like this special Valentine's Day playlist, you can subscribe to it on Spotify! And you can also subscribe to our regular playlist too :)

  2. Oh, I LOVE this idea! So much fun.

As for my favorite love song, I don't even know! I listen to love songs on a pretty regular basis, LOL. The first one that pops into my head is a classic: "I've Had the Time of My Life" by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes. Can't go wrong with a song from Dirty Dancing!

  4. I am so sorry it took me forever and a day to comment on this! First off, thank you for asking me to take part! I love well, love songs so it was super fun (but REALLY HARD) narrowing it down to one! I also think it is so fun that you asked so many people to join in on this because it was such a blast to read about their favorite love songs and why. Happy (belated) Valentine's Day!!
