Rachel & Carina's Infinite Playlist (14)

RACHEL • Girls Just Want to Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper (Cover by STRFKR)
I swear this is a coincidence (you'll understand when you see Carina's pick) but all week long I was thinking that if we did our playlist today, I would choose "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" as covered by STRKFKR. I'm a huge fan of covers. It's always interesting to hear a band's take on a popular song. A lot are inevitably bad, some are good and there are those rare ones that are even better. In my humble opinion, this falls into the latter category. I mean, just the first twenty seconds where it's that catchy bass line and cymbals.. I could probably listen to that introduction alone over and over again. And that's before the lead singer starts singing. When he does though, I can't help but bop my head along and want to sing out loud. There are some songs that I can count on to put me in a good mood and whenever I'm in need of a pick-me-up, this is one of my go-to tunes.

CARINA • "Your Love" by The Outfield (Cover by Justin Vernon/Bon Iver)
I was born in the 80s and though I wouldn't say I absolutely love all 80s fashion, movies, music, etc., I do have an affinity to many things 80s related, especially 80s music. If you've read any of our previous posts, you know how much I enjoy Bon Iver. When I heard Justin Vernon's version of "Your Love" by the 80s band, The Outfield, my mind temporarily tuned out, or I should say, completely tuned in to the song and it has been on repeat ever since. I give credit to my brother, Theo and cousin, Ryan for introducing me to the Bon Iver version. Our family get-togethers are never complete without their live musical entertainment. I miss the days when I'd hear them play more often than just at holiday family parties but I'm grateful that even though we all don't see each other as often, when we do get together, we always pick up from where we left off. I don't know how Bon Iver + this 80s song turned into a sentimental note but I guess that's the effect this song has for me.

Hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoyed the day with your loved ones.
