Here are the basics ...
Book: Girl of Nightmares (Anna Dressed In Blood #2)
Author: Kendare Blake

Category: Young Adult - Horror

Summary: It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.  His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live but in his eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.  Now he's seeing Anna everywhere - when he's asleep and in waking nightmares - and knows something is wrong.  Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor. (Adapted from goodreads.com

My thoughts…
The good: Everything I loved about the first book (see review: here) was still present in the second.  Cas is still the same likable, snarky protagonist but now he's dealing with Anna's "death" and how to save her.  I felt like this time around, we got to see more of his vulnerability and more of his attachment to his friends, Carmel and Thomas.  They both played a bigger role too.  Before, they were just sidekicks who got thrown into the ghost hunting mess by accident.  This time they're choosing to fight side-by-side with Cas and I thought the author did a good job of exploring that.  Another thing I wasn't expecting but really enjoyed was the history of ghost hunting.  In Anna Dressed In Blood, I kind of just accepted that this job had been passed to down through their family.  In Girl of Nightmares, we learn it goes much deeper than that.  I made this comparison before and I'll say it again - there's definitely a Buffy like quality to this book and I love that about it.

The bad:  I missed Anna! She's definitely a huge part of the story and her memory is what's driving Cas to find the truth.  But I miss her actually being there and having a relationship with Cas.  But at the same time, her role in this book made perfect sense.  I just happen to enjoy her character.

Do I recommend?:  If you read the first book and have been waiting for this one like I have, you won't be disappointed! Definitely a great conclusion to this duology!

Happy reading!
